Summer Exchanges

Introduction

You spend 3-4 weeks during the summer exploring a different country with its unique culture and language.

In return, you welcome your "host brother" or "host sister" into your home and country for 3-4 weeks during the summer.

You make a lifetime friend and have a lot of fun together exploring each other's country.

What Is the Timing?

Typically, summer exchange programs occur during June, July and August when you are out of school.

Am I eligible?

  • You are 15-19 years old.
  • You attend high school or you are a graduating senior.
  • You agree to host a foreign student in your home for 3-4 weeks.
  • Children of Rotarians and non-Rotarians are eligible.

I am younger than 15, what about me?

No problem. Apply now and this gives Rotary a year or more to make sure you get your first choice of countries.

Where Can I Go?

Rotary offers you a broad choice to ensure you have the most exciting summer of your life.

Country availability varies from year to year, but here are some popular destinations:

What does it cost?

The Rotary Youth Exchange program is organized by caring volunteers to keep the cost affordable.

The average cost of a summer exchange is about $1,500 including airfare; costs may vary depending on where you live in the USA or Canada.

Your registration fee includes a caring host family, free meals, free accomodation, and health insurance.

You must obtain a passport and you bring your own spending money.

When can I apply?

Applications are welcome throughout the year.

Do you have a brochure?

Are exchanges available in my community?

Due to the decentralized nature of Rotary International, sometimes a Rotary Club in a community may not offer an exchange opportunity. Program details and costs could also vary by State and Province.

What's the next step?

We need to put you in touch with a Rotary official in your community to help you.

Please complete the Rotary Youth Exchange Information Request Form for more information.
